about

This is another very personal, powerful piece of music. I had a conversation and several cigarettes with a homeless Veteran on a bench outside the West Los Angeles Domiciliary in Fall of 2015. The lyrics are a direct result of that conversation and they story unfolds from the perspective of a detached third person interview.

This song began life on the iPad of Jank; I exported the clave percussion track into Pro Tools along with guitars and vocals, both of which I later tracked brand new. I could never have hoped to achieve this tone without Paul Trombetta’s “Bone Machine” in front of the Orange amplifier. It makes the guitar absolutely CRY and later brew into a storm as the solo breaks, which was precisely the effect I was after.

lyrics

Lyrics:
He said it's this time of day, when He could see the end;
no obligations or preparations, no friends.

Just like the grasshopper and the ant, the tortoise and the hare;
living in the land of plenty, and no one wants to share.
and as the temperature's dropping, His thoughts turn to heading South;
with His thumb in the air, living hand to mouth.

and it's a lonely stretch of highway, filled with high dollar cars;
but as the sun goes down they all pass Him by, leaving Him alone with His thoughts,
and these stars...
these stars…
