I cannot whittle this down to a bumper sticker...
"permanent solution to temporary problems"
"in the end one needs more courage to live"
“a lot of you cared, just not enough”
(lather, rinse, repeat ad nauseum)
One of the finest human beings I have ever known shuffled off this mortal coil, by choice, and I just cannot seem to reconcile it with reality. A husband, a friend, a black rock ranger, a veteran... too many intersections and too much stinkin' thinkin' over here.
All I can do is parrot the same sad, tired admonishments... If you're in a dark place, reach out. I'll drop whatever I'm juggling. I can't promise solutions, but I'll BE there.
As a sufferer of depression myself, I frequently make use of the H.A.L.T. self-diagnostic tool, to check in with myself and ensure I know "what's up". Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired, _can_ be a warning sign. Mind you, these are also "normal" experiences for most human beings, but it's important to use what you can. Because knowing is, as GI Joe would say, half the battle.
lyrics
Are you Hungry?
Are you Angry?
How 'bout Lonely?
Are you Tired?
I can't fault you for wanting to move along,
Please forgive me if I try to tell you that it's wrong,
But if you'll join me tonight perhaps together we'll both feel strong,
Maybe tomorrow we'll be singin' a different song.
We can put it off until tomorrow...
Even though we tread a world full of sorrow...
Just one day until this hurt ain't quite as strong,
We can find a way to soldier on.
